Brightlingsea 8-4 Brightlingsea Regent

Brightlingsea welcomed the Regent side to the Football Club on Wednesday night, two sides at the opposite ends of the table, Brightlingsea looking to close the gap on leaders Southend whilst Regent looking to remain in the top division next season.

In the pairs it was Regent who got off to a flyer and ran into a 3-0 lead! Colin Lloyd and Gavin Payne lost to Regent’s Gary Campbell and Steve Cook in 42 darts. Joe Twinn and Sam Lepley then lost to Anthony Neal and Mark Henry again in 42 darts with Ant averaging 31.05 single average. Next up Tony Osborne and Bryan Margerison lost to Lee Woods and Kevin Savory in just 38 darts. Brightlingsea did manage to salvage a point from the pairs as Alan Collins and Kevin Edwards beat Paul Kempen and Colin Goring in 36 darts, with Kevin taking out 150 to win the point.

So Brightlingsea found themselves 3-1 down going into the singles, they knew they needed to correct things and that they did. First up Sam Lepley see off the challenge of Regent’s Anthony Neal in 5 legs, Ant took the first leg in 20 darts. Sam responded in 21 darts with a 180, both players held in the next two legs before Sam finished of 72 to win the set. Colin Lloyd next up levelled the match with a superb man of the match performance and he beat Kevin Savory 3-1 with a 30.52 average with winning legs of 11, 17 & 16 darts. Alan Collins in the third singles match put Brightlingsea into the lead as he beat Colin Goreham 3-0 in 64 darts including a 102 check out. Regent pulled the game back all square at 4 a piece, as Tony Osborne lost in a last leg shoot out to Lee Woods, with both players holding their throw it was Lee who won the last leg decider in 18 darts. Brightlingsea then went on to win the next 4 sets, in┬áset 5, Gavin Payne beat Paul Kempen 3-1 with winning legs of 20, 24 & 22 to average 22.80. Bryan Margerison made the scoreline 6-4 as he beat Mark Henry 3-1 with legs of 19, 22 & 15 to average 23.90. in the penultimate set, Joe Twinn beat Gary Campbell 3-0 with an impressive 28.36 average, with legs of 20, 16 & 17 darts. in the last set Kevin Edwards beat Steve Cook 3-1. with Kevin winning in 21, 20 & 21 darts to average 24.49 and complete the 8-4 scoreline.

Brightlingsea keep closing the gap on leaders, next week its Superleague Singles then a huge fixture as they travel to leaders Southend.
